Growing Guide

1. Soil Preparation: Use well-draining, fertile field soil enriched with compost or well-rotted farmyard manure. A pH range of 6.0–7.5 works well.
2. Sowing: Sow seeds directly into prepared field rows at a depth of 2–3 cm, either by broadcasting or in line sowing for easier management.
3. Spacing: Maintain 25–30 cm spacing between rows to allow good tillering and airflow for the growing crop.
4. Watering: Water every 4–5 days, or as per field irrigation schedule, keeping soil consistently moist for vigorous leafy growth.
5. Sunlight: Requires full sun for at least 6 hours daily for maximum biomass and fodder yield.
6. Fertilizing: Apply farmyard compost or nitrogen-rich fertilizer after each cutting to encourage strong regrowth for subsequent harvests.
7. Pest Management: Monitor for shoot flies and aphids in young growth. Neem-based sprays offer safe, effective control for organic fodder production.
8. Harvesting: First cutting is ready in 55–65 days, once plants reach 1–1.2 meters in height. Cut 10–15 cm above ground level to encourage regrowth.
9. Multi-Cut Tip: Under good management, CoFS29 can be harvested every 40–45 days for multiple cuttings across the growing season.
10. Feeding Tip: Freshly cut fodder can be fed green, or wilted for a day before feeding to reduce excess moisture content.
