Growing Guide

1. Soil Preparation: Use well-draining soil; drumstick tolerates a wide range of soil types, including poor or sandy soil, but avoid waterlogged areas. A pH range of 6.0–7.5 works well.
2. Sowing: Sow seeds directly into the ground or a large container at a depth of 2–3 cm. Seeds can also be started in poly bags and transplanted after a month.
3. Spacing: Plant trees at least 2.5–3 meters apart if growing multiple, giving each tree room to develop a full canopy.
4. Watering: Water every 3–4 days during establishment; once mature, the tree is drought-tolerant and needs minimal watering.
5. Sunlight: Requires full sun for at least 6–8 hours daily for healthy growth and good pod production.
6. Pruning: Prune the young tree at about 1 meter height to encourage branching, which leads to more flowering points and higher pod yield.
7. Fertilizing: Apply organic compost or well-rotted manure every 2–3 months during the first year to support strong root and canopy establishment.
8. Pest Management: Watch for aphids and pod flies. Use neem oil spray as a natural, safe control method; drumstick trees are otherwise quite hardy.
