Growing Guide

1. Soil Preparation: Use loose, well-draining, deeply worked soil free of stones, mixed with compost. A pH range of 6.0–6.8 works best for smooth, straight roots.
2. Sowing: Sow seeds directly into soil or grow bags at a depth of 1–1.5 cm, as carrot does not transplant well.
3. Spacing: Maintain 6–8 cm spacing between plants after thinning to give roots enough room to develop long and straight.
4. Watering: Water consistently every 2–3 days, keeping soil evenly moist; irregular watering can cause roots to crack or become misshapen.
5. Sunlight: Requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for healthy root development.
6. Thinning: Thin seedlings early, once they reach 4–5 cm, to the recommended spacing — this step is critical to avoid stunted or twisted roots.
7. Fertilizing: Apply a light dose of organic compost every 3 weeks; avoid excess nitrogen, which favors leaf growth over root development.
8. Pest Management: Watch for aphids and carrot flies. Use neem oil spray and maintain loose, well-drained soil to deter pests.
9. Harvesting: Ready to harvest in 70–80 days, once roots reach full color and 2–3 cm in diameter. Gently loosen soil before pulling roots.
